Class Instruction

Class instruction is a twelve lesson class that starts with “God” and studies the 24 questions and answers in the chapter “Recapitulation” in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. This instruction is an orderly unfoldment of divine ideas that reveals a spiritual foundation upon which to heal spiritually and to wisely lift off discord, injustice, and all that is the opposite of God, good.

Class is really about light—a revelation of Truth and of spiritual ideas. In the Bible we read, “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the Light, that it was good.” (Gen 1:3,4) This light is the reality of being unfolding. This is the spiritual illumination that is reflected in the very being of every one of God's children and throughout the universe.

Christ Jesus came, sent by God, to manifest this holy light with undimmed amplitude. As we read in II Corinthians, “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (II Corinthians 4:6)

Christian Science class instruction is a sequential unfolding of the light of the message of the Christ that Jesus lived and the light of the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, divine Principle or law that Jesus prophesied would “teach you all things, and bring all things to your rembrance, whatsover I have said unto you.” (John 14:26)

Spiritual ideas are enlightening, opening our eyes to see ourselves as actually spiritual in nature, not material. This Christly understanding gives us a basis for not being afraid to face apparent dark things. When Jesus said, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32), he might just as well have said, "And you shall know the light, and the light shall make you free," for Truth is light. This ribbon of light is shining throughout class instruction and will continue beyond in its revelation.

Class instruction may have a commencement, but spiritual instruction is ongoing. Since we are all “taught of God,” Mind continues to unfold the infinite nature of the universe. We read, “God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis.” (S&H 258:13–15)
